Well it is Liverpool up next, with an early KO at 12:30pm on Sat 27 Aug 16. After that there is a break for some international games.
Haven’t had the easiest of times against the Liverpool Reds in recent years although both games ended in stalemate last season. Would be nice to go one better this time around, but it is still a big ask.
Klippity has a good squad especially going forward and can adapt it to various formations and tactics as required. I wouldn’t be surprised to find them playing in a 4:3:3 formation – to counter act our FBs who give us the width to our play. Keep them pinned back and our cutting edge is blunted.
They are capable of a high powered high octane press too and I think they may try this against us to start with in the hope of an early goal. If they get that then they will probably play on the counter using their pace and cutting edge. I don’t see Poch playing in a different style to possession football with a press. I’m still expecting him to play Kane and Jannsen together, but if Dele returns who will be dropped in his place? Will he break up the Dier/Wanyama DCM partnership, will he still play that at a home match. Hurry back Mousa. Yes Dembele is still suspended and Hugo is still out injured but Poch says everyone else is fit – so, will that mean a return to the bench for Wimmer or will a continued absence imply summat else (Mangala anyone!)
Liverpool have doubts over Emre Can and Divock Origi for Saturday’s game. Both of the players are nursing ankle problems and unlikely to travel to White Hart Lane. Klopp said: “There’s a few players in a bit of doubt. Emre, nothing really serious. It’s his ankle Can has had problems with in past. It’s the same situation with Divock. I’m not for sure they’ll be available.” Additionally, Internet rumours and reports are circulating that Coutinho may be missing too. That pleases me if true, as he is improving and very dangerous with his long range shooting and free kicks. Mane is the man who bothers me the most. A very good purchase by the ‘Pool in my opinion. I wanted Spurs to buy him when he went to Southampton and understand we put in a late bid, but too late. They still have problems at the back, and if our corners are as good this week as against Palace I do fancy our changes from a set-piece. Liverpool do have a lot going forward so I always expect them to score at least o e goal, but I believe we have enough at home to score two, hoping that Janssen breaks his PL duck. So, that is my prediction, 2-1 to Spurs.
